About:
1990 to 2014 principal cellist of the Iceland Symphony. I enjoyed my time as principal very much and think that the challenges I met in the job helped me grow as a musician (and person too I hope). I got a chance to perform several concertos with my orchestra, which was a very enriching musical experience every time despite being extremely demanding on many levels. After 24 years as principal (and raising 5 children as well) I decided to move down into the section, and don’t regret it. I’ve been a member of Trio Nordica since 1993 and with my other trio members, Auður Hafsteinsdottir and Mona Kontra, have been fortunate enough to give performances of so many great piano trios in Iceland as well as abroad. Apart from the trios I’ve enjoyed playing lots of other chamber music with wonderful people in many beautiful places in the world. I enjoy playing modern music (good thing since I’m married to a composer). I’ve released some CD´s the last one containing the complete Bach suites.
Current Primary Activity(ies):
At the moment I am trying to be less busy than I have been in the past, trying to find a good balance between my life as a musician, mother of five and grandma of two, as well as finding time for other gratifying things.
