About:
I enjoyed a career as a chamber music player and touring soloist before taking my current position with the New York Philharmonic. I also spent a formative two seasons as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra cello section from 1979 to 1981. Still an avid reader, I spend as much time as possible pursuing my passion for offshore sailing. It's more interesting than, and nearly as dangerous as, performing the Haydn D major Concerto. I am married with two children: Ottavia, 25, currently a graduate student at Columbia University, and Lucas, 23, a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, currently on his second deployment. My wife, Ilaria, born in Italy, is a freelance writer.
