About:
My personal vision of “having it all” was always something like speaking 6 languages AND growing your own vegetables. After 15 years of living and working in different countries as a freelance baroque cellist, I’ve made more progress on the language front, and am now trying to catch up re the vegetables. I’ve settled in a beautiful little city in England called Norwich, with my husband (a lutenist called Matt), our little daughter, and two kittens (who I’m hoping won’t destroy the garden). I’ve been researching and experimenting with 19c performance practice ever since taking Mr. Lesser’s class on early recordings, and made my own recording of the Brahms Cello Sonatas based on my research into the Brahms circle’s playing style(s): https://deux-elles.co.uk/product/brahms-cello-sonatas-dxl-1181/ Since that came out, I’ve been giving more lectures, workshops, and masterclasses to share what I’ve learned - mostly about a range of artistic freedoms that used to be part of classical music but have gradually fallen out of our tradition. For anyone who is curious, the Facebook link will take you to a blog I keep there called The Brahms Lab.
Current Primary Activity(ies):
Freelance cellist and gambist dedicated to historical performance of all periods, with a special research interest in 19th-century performance practice. Currently working on a historically informed edition of the Schumann Cello Concerto for Bärenreiter, and running a Facebook blog called The Brahms Lab.
